Garrett

Trying to find time to spend time individually with the kids is a bit difficult. But, we try. And it is very important to me to see the babies as individuals, not just "the babies".  They really are very different. Very distinct personalities. Of course, just because they were "womb-mates" doesn't mean they should be the same right? But sometimes it's easy to forget that. For example, Garrett has learnt to smile, and Rhys hasn't yet. Of course, this had me imagining every disorder that Rhys could possibly have and googling them. Everyone says not to compare, but it's hard!

Anyways, this post is all about Garrett. And if it takes me weeks to get around to doing a post about Rhys, it's just because I am insanely busy. I will NOT feel guilty about it! (haha, yeah right!)

Garrett is a sweetheart. He's a little more sensitive than Rhys is and seems slightly put out by all the world has to offer him. I think his preference would be to be back inside his mommy, all safe and sound. Truthfully, I think he misses Ben. They say identical siblings have a special connection right?

Garrett has a short fuse. He can be peacefully sleeping and then BANG! He's STARVING and acts as though you haven't fed him for weeks, when actually it's only be 90 minutes. He likes to eat often and small amounts. When he cries, it's truly pitiful and breaks your heart.  He's even learnt how to perfect the lower lip pout. The world is ending for Garrett if he has a wet diaper or gets too hungry. And you MUST cuddle him for ages after he eats. Nothing less is acceptable.  :-)

Garrett has learnt to smile and coo. He loves looking at faces. Often when you hold him, he does this:

He would totally win a staring contest.

I have yet to catch one of his smiles on camera, but his whole face lights up. It's gorgeous! I think the first person he smiled at was Rylen. Because of this, Rylen is always asking "lay him down so he can laugh at me!" Rylen likes to lay beside him on the floor and get real close to his face. It's pretty sweet.

Garrett now weighs 8 lbs 9 oz! He has officially surpassed the weight that Rylen was born at (8 lbs 8 oz). He feels more like a "real baby" now, rather than a fragile preemie. He is even outgrowing his newborn diapers. I can't believe he was just 3 lbs 13 oz when he was born. He's come a long way. He has chubby legs now and you just can't help but kiss his pudgy cheeks.

Garrett is like Mark's "mini-me". He looks so much like Mark that it's alarming sometimes.

Down to the details, they definitely have the same genes! Garrett has a dimple on his chin. So does Mark. Garrett has a dimple on his ear. So does Mark, except his is on the opposite ear. Their eyes are the same shape, as are their lips. It would have been so interesting to see if Ben has all these details as well. I'm not sure how "identical" they would have been. Sometimes they say identical siblings have little differences such as dimples for example. Or sometimes, they are "mirror image". I guess we'll never know, but it makes me happy that I know mostly what Ben would have looked like (other than the little details).

Garrett likes to sleep with his arms up by his head. Even if you try to bundle his arms, he always finds a way for them to escape.

My prediction for Garrett is that he will be similar in personality to Rylen. He seems to share some of the same personality traits already: the need for cuddles, the sensitivity.  But, I think he might be a little less active, less inclined to "jump in" and try new things. He might be more of a stay-back and observe type guy. Just a prediction, I could be totally wrong.

Garrett, I love you so much. You're my little Snuggle Monster. Even though you drive me crazy at 3 am, I wouldn't change a thing about you! I hope you need those cuddles forever and ever! (but if you can change the timing a bit, like to daytime hours, that would be great!)
